Drifting up to a mooring on the Helford river. The still silky waters of the quiet flowing river together with light evening airs is spell binding.

Guide Me, Summer evening, Helford River, 2024

Oil on Canvas 12 x 12 "

The 1897 Looe built fishing lugger sailing in a fresh breeze across in Mounts Bay, with St Michael's Mount in background.  Guide Me is iconic on the seas of Cornwall.  Engineless and lovingly owned by Jude and Jono Brickall since 1977, she has a turn of speed and magic that is so powerful and felt by all who love traditional wooden boats.

gleaner tremayne quay_edited.jpg

Gleaner is the restored 70ft drifter, built in Porthleven in 1878.  Restored by Spike Davies she was saved and sailed again 40 years after she was abandoned.  Here she sails into Porthoustock under sail alone.  On a hot summer day, with the wind in the south west the waters on the east of the Lizard Peninsula are still and flat.

Baranbus 2024

Oil on canvas 10 x 8"

Baranabus is a traditional Cornish dipping lugger and the only one of her kind to survive from a huge fleet of mackrel and pilchard fishing boat drivers that operated out of St Ives in the 19th Century.   Built in 1881 she is full of character and loved by many.  As part of the Cornish Maritime Trust, she received the honour of the Centenarian Award this year recognising her status and importance in maritime history.
