When I am painting I feel like there is nothing else, I find myself fully absorbed and it "washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life".  It transports me.  I relive walks, sailing or staring at the sea, feeling the weather and seasons, creating and capturing a moment in time as I have seen and felt.  And time passes unwatched.   Sometimes nature seems so incredibly beautiful I am over whelmed and it feels like all life is there, intensified in that very moment.  Creating a painting for me is a balance between capturing these feelings and impressions whilst still reasoning with formal elements of composition and colour.  Ever since moving to Cornwall in 2011, I have been drawn to the Helford River and the Lizard Peninsula with all its magic; the coastline, countryside, lanes, ancient trees and stones, churches and houses.  

 

 Since a girl I have always loved painting and drawing, looking at art and  nature.   My interest in fine art lead me to gaining an MA from Edinburgh University.  My interest in painting traditional boats comes from my personal experiences sailing wooden boats since I was a girl and in more recent years building and living aboard them too.  I like to capture a true likeness of each vessel in an impressionistic style and setting.  Wooden boats capture the soul much like art.
