Oil on Canvas

I painted this large still life as a ode to Autumn but also to my home.  Having moved so many times since I first moved to Cornwall, having my own settle home now has meant so much to me, its taken a huge mount of effort to achieve and a lot to process.  Its not really that I was not happy on the boats with my alternative life, or even I preferred many of the old houses and cottages I have rented, but there is something very meaningful for me to find a place I can call my own, is secure and settled for my children.  So this painting is inspired by that, the abundance of harvest, the apples represent my children, the sunflowers the stability and joy of having your own garden to grow, the pumpkin shared meals but also the rot that can set in, the vase is representative of my family homes where delft ware always was a feature and a reference to my life on boats, the rosehips and briony stand for the hedgerows which I love and are the same where ever your home is (in Cornwall) and protection of the home.  All on my kitchen table I have actually owned since 2004 in my first wee family home in Devon where Lily was born and so many meals and faces and stories and times are shared.
