When I am painting I feel like there is nothing else, I find myself fully absorbed, I am transported and I become lost in time.
I am compelled to paint. Since a girl I have observed nature, hedgerows, trees, flowers, the seasons and the changing light and this has always been my creative daily inspiration. I have always painted and sketched and enjoyed photography. I started painting in oils in 2004 and I like to paint what I see and feel to be beautiful and meaningful to me.
In the past couple of years I have started to paint wooden boats again. Wooden boats and the sea have always been part of my life. I have weathered the extreme highs and lows of two relationships and their sad endings. Wooden boats connect with the soul, they represent so much, freedom, dreams, hopes, adventure, the journey of life. They are also this fascinating window to the past, all their stories and history.
Cornwall is in itself beautiful and magical. But for me it is where I have been a mother with all its challenges. I have experienced extreme love here but also darkest despair and found huge connection to the land, sea and stones. It feels like it has a very powerful female energy in Cornwall, empowering and liberating, free of convention. It is a place of secrets and beauty, mystery and legend.
